#ArtistLife

The day came and went, my first ever art exhibit! It was thrilling, exciting, and absolutely exhausting! Now I know why my fellow alumni friends prefer to do group shows rather than solo.  Setting up your own show consists of finding the right "venue" for the work, food, music and a bit of incentive to get people to come! It was not easy but I got it done! Challenges are always worth it.

My dear friend, Alina Alter of Aoki Boutique was generous enough to allow my work to be shown in her lovely space. It really is a perfect match because Aoki Boutique is all about empowering the everyday woman with fun fashion and quirky attitude! Which is why I chose to create images of women doing one of the things they love to do, beautifying themselves! It was truly a match made in heaven because our aesthetics mesh so well. And don't let me get started on the treats that were provided by Buttercream Cupcakes and Spodee

Buttercream Cupcakes created decadent red velvet and chocolaty morsels, with beautifully festive red and green jimmies over creamy frosting! Simply delicious! Spodee wine was also served with a cocktail of pomegranate juice, a spritz of seltzer and some merry garnishes. It was the best kind of potent cocktail to pair with cupcakes! Also who doesn't love a discount?! Aoki offered a special 10% discount on all merchandise that night, shopping, wine, and art equals the perfect combo!

The crowd was great and very responsive to my work which is always great to hear. Usually when you work on things behind the scenes, via the internet you never really know how people are reacting to your work, especially the look on their faces. It was really quite interesting to observe, first hand! The pieces are my babies, to see people smiling and enjoying my "babies," is truly a gift. It was quite surreal to have my work in tangible form, I'm so used to it  being a file on my hard drive. It really motivates me to want to print things out more often! It was really a fulfilling experience for me, one that I hope to achieve more often in the future!

For everyone that wasn't able to make it for opening night, my work will be up for the next three months to oogle and awe at! That's if you're in the area. I would absolutely love to hear your comments. Now that planning, prepping and setting up for the show is over, I can finally sleep more and get back to blogging! Dear readers, have you ever set up/ hosted an event, how did it go?

PS, thanks to Aoki Boutique, Buttercream Cupcakes, Spodee Wine and DJ Geek for making this happen!

  1. Congratulations on your first show! What a great milestone--and it looks like you had a really good turnout. I have participated in a bunch of group exhibitions and one solo show, and you are totally right, setting up a solo exhibition is so much more challenging. That said, I hope you get the opportunity to have many more!
