I recently got the opportunity to attend an exclusive preview of a new product launch by New Balance. New Balance has been one of the USA's top brands for fantastic running footwear and apparel since the 70's and now NB is introducing us to a new form of footwear that redefines the science of soft!
The event was held in the Fort Washington Avenue Armory, in Manhattan. The Armory was the perfect place for this event, it contains a gorgeous indoor track and field facility which made it quite easy for me to try out New Balance's latest product, the Fresh Foam 980!
Right now, when it comes to running, minimalist shoes are all the rage and I must admit that I'm also a fan of it! More than 50% of the running and training shoes are made with a neutral sole because feeling like you're running barefoot is in demand. What's great about the Fresh Foam 980 is that it combines what runners love about a neutral shoe with stability support. As the name suggests, it is made with a cushioning foam that combines the natural underfoot feel with plush softness. Now runners don't have to sacrifice support any longer! I'm a short distance runner, running in minimalist shoes are okay, but not totally ideal especially since I have a slight over- pronation. I've strayed away from stability shoes for a long time because I didn't like the aesthetics that many of them were taking, most of them also carried a cumbersome looking heel. I guess it's the style maven in me to look at the details! The best part about the Fresh Foam is that it combines a very fashionable look with supreme comfort. From the hexagonal pattern, breathable air mesh, to the beautifully crafted spray paint finish, it's a shoe for the stylish athlete! After testing it out at the Armory, I still wasn't fully convinced so I tried it out at my gym. Doing weighted squats and dead lifts never felt so comfortable and trust me those exercises are anything but that! I absolutely love it, watch out Nike I think New Balance has a new aficionada! Fortunately you won't have to wait long to try it out, the NB Fresh Foam 980 will be in all City Sports stores February 12th, retailing at $109.95. Dear readers, will you be trying out the Fresh Foam 980? What is your ideal running/ training shoe? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
