There comes a time when you turn on your music playlist and start skipping through songs, until you find one that has you wondering if you could create a playlist for that one song! Lately, I've found myself thinking this way. I would be at the gym, walking home, doing laundry, or even sketching at a park and contemplating that I just don't want to listen to anything at all. I am the biggest music lover, music has a way of helping one get through any situation and provide you with confidence with just the tiniest of lyrics! That's why when I felt like listening to nothing at all during a recent cardio session, I knew I needed new tunes! That's when I discovered Lapalux.
There have been very few albums to actually grab my attention and demand repetitive play, Lapalux's Some Other Time Ep does just that! I feel like it's all i've been listening to, the last album to make me feel that way was Bonobo's North Borders, and that's been a while! Lapalux has a tendency to create instinctive textures that grip to your ears, this album has an infectious finish that leaves you wanting more. What's insane is that Some Other Time only has five solid tracks, apparently that's all you need when you have gold!
Stuart Howard (Lapalux) has been known to have an effect on the listener's mood, I find it to be very true! Dubbed out vocal samples, cutting edge beats and a hint of jazz mixed in is the best way to describe this album. It's hard to say which track is my favorite but, "Quartz" seems to be tugging at my heart strings with it's filtered vocals, crooning about what makes someone special.
Sure this album, Some Other Time was released back in 2012 but it found it's way into my ears forever! I'm not much of one to talk much about music but when you find something that's disorientatingly good, you just feel like sharing it with the world! If you like music with fractured elements and deep journeys to a state of consciousness, then this album is for you. Dear readers, what have you been listening to lately?
