Retro

Like everyone else, I have a penchant for new, shiny and often, the latest.  While it's nice to have what's current, sometimes older pieces and garments are what's better for our wardrobes. Style revivals happen every few seasons, which means something you wore adored all the time, five years ago, will come back in style to be the hottest and trendiest thing on the market! I'm not the best at vintage shopping, but when I do find something, it's a total score!

Philadelphia has a lot of thrift stores, I don't know them all, but I know a few good ones. This leather pencil skirt was a steal, 100% leather (sorry to my readers that are against wearing leather) and I purchased it for less than $15. It wasn't the draw of the fabric that got me, it was the fact that it was a high waisted pencil skirt, in leather! I also found the long cashmere cardigan at a thrift store, for less than a pretty penny. You might be thinking, "Cardigan, so boring!" It's quite a versatile piece if you think about it, here it's paired with a leather vest to really give it an edge!

cardigan: Thrifted (similar), vest: Zara (similar), top: Nike, skirt: Thrifted (similar), booties: Shoemint (similar), jewelry: FreePeople, Jewelmint, Nordstrom

I think I need to make more of a conscious effort in thrift store shopping, cue the Macklemore song! Someone's trash is always someone else's treasure, you wouldn't believe some of the things you'll find, classic Hermes scarves to mint condition Chanel bags. It certainly makes me wonder why more people don't partake in hunting for their wardrobe pieces at their local thrift shop.

Autumn is one of the best seasons in Philadelphia, because of that I try to commemorate it with exciting ensembles that are not necessarily new garments. Why not ring in the new season with your best foot forward?! I'm also challenging myself to streamline my wardrobe not only to neutral colors but also voluminous pieces that play with silhouettes. Black and white doesn't have to be boring! Dear readers, I'd love to hear about how you dress in anticipation of your favorite season.
