Lingerie Through The Years

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti
I'm not an overtly sexual human being, and I mostly aim to distance myself from any sexual stigma with my work in the blogging community, but that's not to say that lingerie should never be sexy. It really is all about perception. Whilst I tend to be on the other side of the fence about marketing an entire brand about sex, there's more to lingerie brands than they give themselves credit for. But have you ever stopped to think about how lingerie has developed over the years? Imagine, a time when women's underwear choices were based off of modesty. Luckily, Mode Studios has released a chronological video time line for us to get an insight on what was lingerie!

From modest to barely there, style has definitely evolved! In 1915 lingerie felt almost like an after thought, with it's cover all, frumpy, romper- slip. It almost seems like it would just cause major visible panty lines under any outfit. I will say that the style approach from the 50's was by far my favorite! "Frilly and flirty," is how I like to describe my personal style, it's sexy without going to over board. It's also interesting to see that between the 50's and early 2000's more skin is shown than compared to what is portrayed for 2015, our current times. 2015 is a one piece romper/ teddy, with an open back and plunging neckline. Cute, sure, practical, not so much and I believe that this chronological view helps show us that fact. Lingerie used to be more of a sexy support system, which now has developed into an impractical little piece of underpinning.
Lingerie gratification, I guess, but don't get me wrong! I love all the frills and thrills with lingerie, as illogical as some of them may be. Dear readers, what do you think of this video?
