A 1920s Rendezvous

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

I'll admit, I didn't actually watch The Great Gatsby movie from 2013 until just a few months ago. As a tween in high school, The Great Gatsby was a required reading at my school. In that time I fell in love with the story, the story about a culture, a time period, fashion, music and of course unrequited love. The Novel made me imagine what I would see in that era, The kinds of cars that would driven, the kinds of dresses and shoes one would see, the way the fabrics would feel like, it was just a beautiful story to conjure up in my head! When I saw the movie, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, I felt like my imaginations were greatly satisfied! Everything about the way the fashion was depicted including the music and culture surpassed my original imaginations. I was like a kid in a candy store! When I found out that Philadelphia would be having it's very own "Gatsby" inspired party, I was highly intrigued!

This year, Jazz Age On The Delaware is returning to the Glen Foerd Estate for a second time to give Gatsby a run for his money! The waterfront estate will be turned into an old school oasis on July 30th from 11- 5pm, a day full of vintage inspired fun from musical performances, dance lessons,  fashion inspirations and so much more! With an event such as this, it wouldn't be complete if the attendees were not in "costume," everyone is encouraged to show up dressed in their best 1920's attire as there will be a fashion contest to honor the most dapper guests as the "Most Fashionable Flapper!" In addition to all the fabulous music and fashion there will also be lawn games, mansion tours, vintage vendors, antique displays, and a pie baking contest!

This event sounds like one not to be missed! I'm excited to indulge in a moment that feels like it's straight out of a novel, also this event takes place on my birthday. Dear readers, join me at an epic event to celebrate an era with so much culture and style at one of Philadelphia's beautiful, historic site. You can find tickets to the event here.
